From the 1890's, while the home was still owned by the Tift family, this shot taken from the vantage point of the Key West Lighthouse. The mansard roofed building directly behind the home is the carriage house. Years later, the old hayloft would become Hemingway's writing studio and Pauline would have a second-floor walkway built to connect the studio with the couple's master bedroom. Much of the vacant ground seen is now taken over by Key West's first privately-owned pool.
